From left: Nikhil Gowda, Rakesh Siddaramaiah, Kumar Bangarappa, Anup Revanna Kannada film industry, popularly known as Sandalwood, and its relationship with children of prominent politicians in Karnataka go a long way right from the time when R Gundu Rao was chief minister in the 1980s. However, most of their careers were short-lived and have now faded into oblivion. Latest to join the list is grandson of former prime minister H D Devegowda and son of former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy, Nikhil Gowda, who is all set make his debut “Jaguar” scheduled to be launched in August. Here is list of those children from political circles, some who are trying to make it big in Sandalwood and others have made a pit stop of sorts: Son of JD (S) leader N Cheluvarayaswamy, Sachin is making his debut in the movie “Happy Birthday” which recently went on floors. Former minister and JD (S) leader Zameer Khan is all set to launch his son Zaid Khan, who is all of 17 years, in the coming days. Ajay Gundu Rao,son of former chief minister R Gundu Rao and brother of current minister Dinesh Gundu Rao, has acted in two movies - “Hoovu Hannu” and “Samara” opposite Shivrajkumar. His career was short-lived and he passed away in 2012 due to brain haemorrhage. Vyjayanthi, daughter of former minister and speaker KH Srinivas, also made her debut as leading lady opposite Ajay Gundu Rao in “Hoovu Hannu”. Kumar Bangarappa has acted in over 15 movies such as "Rakta Kanneeru", "Amara Prema" and "Ksheera Sagara" and later became a minister in S M Krishna’s cabinet. His brother Madhu Bangarappa is a JD (S) MLA from Sorab constituency and has acted in “Devi” opposite Sneha Ullal. Son of former minister BT Lalitha Nayak,  Om Prakash Nayak,  has acted, directed and composed music for the movie “Ondu Koleya Sutta”. Chief Minister Siddaramiah’s son Rakesh has acted in a few Kannada movies, but they never made it to the silverscreen. His debut movie “Nanage Neenu Ninage Naanu” that was initiated nearly a decade ago was not completed.  Actor and turned politician Jaggesh’s son Gururaj Jaggesh has starred in a few films such as “Pangnama”, “Paipoti” and “Sankranti”.
