Kishore Biyani’s Future Group is betting big on its fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) arm Future Consumer and is looking to take on incumbents in the industry. The company is taking some of its private labels nationwide through distribution channels to be placed in retail outlets all over.

The products will cover Tasty Treat snacks, Voom fabric care, Dreamery dairy items, Mother Earth organic staples and Kara personal care products. These products are currently being sold through the Big Bazaar outlets that the group runs. A pilot run is already in place according to the company.

An Economic Times report quotes Ashni Biyani, MD, Future Consumer as saying that while Future Consumer has been distributing only a few of its own brands in general trade, it will now aggressively distribute across general trade outlets.

Future Consumer has made some changes at the top too. Rajnikant Sabnavis, an old HUL hand, will be the its new chief executive officer, effective January 1, 2020.

The group has also clarified that it has no plans of making any acquisitions for its business expansion and will work on the exiting brands and products to increase the market coverage.

Many of these brands/products are being sold through online channels like Amazon and BigBasket. In the offline trade some 30,000 general stores are stocking the products from Future Consumer.

The Future Group has been working with a few international brands in different categories in developing private labels for its inhouse BigBazaar outlets. One such tie-up is with the Fonterra group of New Zealand and the products sold are Dreamery milk, milkshakes, curd and yoghurt. These are sold through around 3,000 stores offline now.

Terra Chips and Sensible Portions are brands in the snacks category and will be made available across 32,000 cities by next year, the company claims. These have been developed in collaboration with Hain Celestial Group from the US and the products are handled by a separate venture, Hain Future Natural Products, as far as the manufacturing and marketing are concerned.
