In what may be seen as yet another instance of moral policing in Kerala, a student in Kasargod  was attacked on Monday for supposedly hanging out with a few of his women classmates.

Prithviraj, a first year BEd student at Zainab Memorial BEd college in Kasargod, was attacked by a gang of ten, when seated at a restaurant along with his women classmates.

According to Vidyanagar police, the attackers walked into the restaurant at around 4 pm and warned Prithviraj against spending time with women classmates. They then proceeded to attack him with a soda bottle.

Prithviraj who sustained injuries in his head and chest was taken to a nearby hospital. The attackers fled even before the police reached the scene.

Though some regional media reports suggest that Prithviraj was beaten up for hanging out with girls hailing from another community, the police say that they are yet to verify the information.

Vidyanagar Sub-Inspector Prashobh told The News Minute that Prithviraj has identified one attacker. The police have registered a case for voluntarily causing hurt against the attackers, but are yet to make any arrests in this regard.
