Kerala woman, missing for a month, found murdered and buried in a plot of land

A 30-year-old woman who went missing over a month ago has been found murdered and buried in a vacant plot of land in Amboori, Thiruvananthapuram. The police recovered the mortal remains of Rakhi after a month-long search. Three men, including Rakhi’s former partner and army man Akhil, have been named accused in the murder.

On June 21, Rakhi, who was working for a private firm in Kochi, left home saying she was going to her office. When there was no news from her, Rakhi’s parents filed a missing complaint. After one month, the police recovered the deceased’s body from a vacant plot of land next to Akhil’s house in Amboori.

According to the police, the retrieved body was highly decomposed, indicating that the alleged murder had taken place a while ago. The police now suspect that the relationship that went sour had led to Rakhi’s murder.

“Rakhi and Akhil were in a relationship some years ago. Akhil’s marriage had been fixed and we are guessing arguments following this had led to Rakhi’s murder. Akhil was building a new house and had invited Rakhi to see the house. This is where he and his brother, Rahul, are suspected to have murdered Rakhi. It looks like a pre-planned murder, where all arrangements were made before the incident,” an officer at the Poovar police station in Thiruvananthapuram told TNM.

The Poovar police have nabbed one accused and are on the lookout for the two others. “We have nabbed Adarsh, a friend of Akhil. We are still looking for Akhil and Rahul. All the accused are around 30 years of age,” said the officer. Reports also say that Rakhi’s body was traced after checking her phone messages and questioning Adarsh.

Rakhi’s body has been sent for postmortem. Meanwhile, the police are yet to update the sections of the case. “We have not updated the missing complaint since it was registered a month ago. Now that we have found the body, we will be updating sections accordingly,” the officer added.
