Kerala HC judge PD Rajan stirs controversy again for allegedly abusing a police officer

A CI of Kerala police has submitted a written complaint to chief justice of Supreme Court and Kerala High Court.

A Circle Inspector of Kerala police has sent a written complaint to chief justice of Supreme Court and Kerala High Court alleging that HC judge PD Rajan, abused him, tried to slap him and also threatened to get him removed from his job.

P Sreekumar, CI of Mavelikara police station, was reportedly summoned by the justice at his chambers in November 2016, over a case which involved the latter’s relatives.

Bhavith Kumar (28) and his father Sasidharan (65), the justice’s relatives were involved in a case of attacking a security guard of a government hospital. The CI’s complaint says that the judge had called him at the Mavelikkara police station and asked the station house officer to remove their names from the case.

The Times of India report quotes the CI’s complaint as stating, “He [Justice Rajan] shouted to me that he would treat me like a dog and will tear off my uniform and throw away my official cap. Hon: Justice used filthy language and even attempted to slap me. Hon: Justice again wrongly alleged that me with other four police personnel assaulted his brother and denied his previous instructions to exclude his relatives from this case. He also alleged that the case was registered after collecting bribe from somebody.“

This is not the first time that Justice PD Rajan finds himself in a controversy.

In December 2015, he had made two police personnel stand in the courtroom for several hours and asked them to write the duties of police officers by referring to the police manual as an ‘imposition’.

In another instance, the Judge visited a temple in Trippunithura without security guards due to which civil policemen could not identify him.

The judge asked two of these policemen to call the doctor of the temporary clinic, set up in the temple premises. The judge's wife is a doctor at the clinic.

As they did not identify the Judge, the constables are said to have asked him for his name to inform the doctor about the visitor. The judge reportedly told them that they need not know his name and asked them to do what he said. Then one of the officers reportedly addressed the judge as chetta (elder brother) and told him that he can himself visit the doctor.

The judge noted the policemen’s numbers and later summoned them at the court chamber.
