The News Minute | October 2, 2014 | 03.33 pm ISTNot many actors and politicians in rest of India have gathered the kind of mass support that those in Tamil Nadu have received in the state. For most people in the state, politics and cinema is not just entertainment. It is a religion. While the conviction of Jayalalithaa has taken many by surprise, the kind of reaction that has sprung up from different quarters is varied.Associations and fraternities who have benefited from the former Chief Minister's rule have come out strongly in support of their leader, many posters have sprung up across the state condemning the conviction. Some of these posters have been hugely creative while others have taken on a widely accusatory standThis one has huge expectations of 'Amma' as she is fondly known. It says that if Jayalalithaa is released today, she would go back to being TN’s Chief Minister. If not the longer she remained in the Bangalore jail, the more chances of her becoming Karnataka’s next Chief Minister. Siddaramaiah, the current CM better watch out !This poster put up by North Chennai MP TG Venkatesh Babu calls the Jayalalithaa conviction a blind judgement and says that the 'Phoenix Bird' will rise again. Cinema stars and politicians are two kinds of personalities revered by most people across Tamil Nadu. This poster on the other hand, likens AIADMK leader Jayalalithaa to God. It questions if ‘God’ can be punished by mere mortals and whether ‘God’ should ask for bail. A photoshopped edition of the same banner mocks the first one and asks, "Does God apply for bail?"Another poster, took on a religious twist saying that the Judge, Michael John Cunha's religion was the reason behind the imprisonment. It goes on to blame his actions for the 27 deaths in Tamil Nadu in the wake of Jayalalithaa’s arrest (some of these deaths from suicide and others were due to cardiac arrest)This poster accuses M Karunanidhi, DMK leader and AIADMK’s arch-rival, Subramaniam Swamy and Judge D’Cunha for conspiring against Jayalalithaa. It says that injustice has won in the conviction that sent Jayalalithaa to jail. Keep Cauvery, give us Amma, this one saysActor Vijay’s relationship with the former chief minister is quite well known. When his film Thalaivaa faced trouble, he did not find the necessary protection to allow its running in Tamil cinema halls. So now , just as public curiosity towards his next release Kaththi increases and the release date nears, this poster (by his fan club) thanks Prime Minister Modi for the Jayalalithaa verdict.Quiet an interesting line that catches one’s eye is ‘Vijay + Modi = Tamil Nadu in 2016’ His political ambitions well-known, this could be Vijay’s launchpad into Tamil Nadu state politics and the upcoming 2016 elections for the BJP. Some more posters depicting Subramaniam Swamy, who had filed the original complaint against Jayalalithaa in the Rs. 66 crore disproportionate assets case and Judge John Michael D’Cunha have been found across the state, in Madurai and other areas. However, the AIADMK has denied responsibility for putting up the derogatory posters, saying that the posters aren’t theirs. For film releases and elections, posters are the bang-on target to reach out to the public in the state.Even today, the same applies. While allegations continue to be thrown at different groups and supporters of Amma continue to show their condemnation towards the judgement, it remains to be seen what mode these protests and public outcries will take if a bail is ruled out by the Karnataka HC,
