The News Minute | January 6, 2015 | 8:15 am ISTThe Telangana government on Monday came up with a proposal to tap more water from the Krishna river, through the Srisailam dam, to meet Hyderabad’s drinking water needs.According to a report in the Times of India, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) is already drawing 11 TMC of water from the Nagarjunasagar (90 million gallons per day) and another 90 MGD through Phase-II. The proposal was discussed during a meeting with top officials in the presence of chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao in the Secretariat to review the current situation and make plans for the upcoming summer.This move is expected to bring strong criticism and likely kick up fresh controversy from the AP government which currently shares the Krishna River with Telangana, based on the AP Reorganization Act.
