The teaser of the Karthi starrer Chinna Babu was released by Suriya recently on a micro-blogging site and has caught the attention of the film buffs and fans in a big way. The film, which is the Telugu version of Kadai Kutty Singam, will be released in the Telugu speaking states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The makers of the film decided to release it in Telugu following a big fan base that Karthi enjoys among the Telugu audience.

Chinna Babu, directed by the National Award winning director Pandiraj, is bankrolled by Karthi’s brother and actor Suriya under his banner 2D Entertainments in association with Miryala Ravinder Reddy.

Chinna Babu, titled as Kadai Kutty Singam in Tamil, is a rural drama that is based on the farmers, their plight and family sentiments. Karthi is not new to donning the rural character as he has done so convincingly before and tasted success. The film has Sayyesha playing the female lead with Sathyaraj in a pivotal role. D Imman is composing the tunes for this venture with Velraj cranking the camera.

According to reports doing rounds, Karthi’s brother and the film’s producer, Suriya may be doing a cameo in Chinna Babu. This news, however, is yet to be confirmed. Several of Karthi’s films have been dubbed in Telugu and did well at the box office. His first ever direct Telugu movie was Oppiri, which was released in Tamil as Thozha.

Directed by Vamsi Paidapally, Thozha / Oopiri was based on Olivier Nakache and Éric Toledano's French comedy-drama The Intouchables. The film was produced by Prasad V Potluri under his banner PVP Cinemas. In this bilingual, Karthi shared the screen space with Nagarjuna for the first time in his career. With Chinna Babu, Karthi will be venturing back in the Telugu film industry with a straight Tollywood film.
