On Friday, there was high drama at a private high school in Karnataka’s Bhaktal, when the town police went to arrest a teacher and the principal of the school, for attempting to rape a minor student.

The Times of India reports that Nadeem, the schoolteacher, was arrested and charged under provisions of POCSO. Principal Shakeel and his driver Ullah, however, are at large.

Reports say that a class 10 student, a resident of Udupi, wanted to appear for her SSLC examination as a private student and approached the school two months back. She was being given training at the private school.

Although her mother used to accompany her to the school everyday, the teacher reportedly asked her mother not to do so. On Thursday, Nadeem and Shakeel took the girl in a car (driven by Ullah) and reportedly tried to rape her. The girl, who managed to escape their clutches, complained to her mother, who later filed a police complaint.

For the Bhaktal town police, arresting Nadeem was not an easy job. The report states that Nadeem locked himself up in a classroom, on learning that the police were on the lookout for him.

After procuring a magistrate's permission, the police entered the school premises and reportedly broke open the classroom door to arrest Nadeem.
