A 39-year-old schoolteacher from Karnataka’s Belagavi district has been arrested for allegedly sexually abusing a minor student.

The teacher Anwar Hussain Hajarat Ali Nadaf, has been charged under POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act, for allegedly sexually abusing a Class 10 girl student for the past six months. The teacher’s wife Ruksana, who was aware of the abuse, reportedly supported her husband’s deeds, and has also been arrested.

The 15-year-old girl had been staying with the couple at their home in Nippani for the past six months, after her family sent her there so that she could get better education.

According to a report in Deccan Chronicle, the teacher and his wife were acquaintances of the girl’s family, who had paid Rs 50,000 to Anwar, before sending the girl to stay with them. Anwar then enrolled the girl in the school where he teaches.

The incident came to light when the girl, who had gone home for a short vacation, refused to go back to Anwar’s house. When prodded further, she maintained that she will go back to school but refused to stay with Anwar and his wife.

Worried, the girl’s grandfather reportedly sought the help of the school principal Latifa Pathan. When quizzed, the girl told the principal that she had been sexually abused at Anwar’s house. With the help of the principal, the girl filed a police complaint on Friday, after which Anwar and Ruksana were charged under POCSO.

In her complaint, the girl alleged that Anwar and his wife would often force her to watch porn videos. After medical examination, the girl's samples have been sent for forensic examination.
