A 24-year-old man committed suicide in Koppal district on Monday after the woman he was in a relationship with for three years, allegedly spurned him.
Before committing suicide, Kiran Kumar in a video said that he took the extreme step because he could not get married to Shravya. He was rushed to the Ballari district hospital where he died the same day, said sources.
Koppal district SP Thyagarajan said that a suo motu case of unnatural death has been registered. “Unless there is a formal complaint from any family member, we cannot take any action,” he said.
According to Kiran’s video statement, he said that Shravya and he were in a live-in relationship for over three years.
“…Even though she was in love with me for 3 years, she agreed to get married to someone else. I cannot live without her…,” he said in the video.
On October 10, Kiran went to Shravya’s house in Munirabad to convince her parents. But, Shravya told him that she was ready to get married to the man of her parent’s choice. Kiran consumed poison in front of Shravya’s house.
While Kiran’s parents knew about the relationship, the woman’s family did not. However, the latter told Shravya that she can’t get married to Kiran, reported Public TV.
Kiran, who works as an animation designer in Hubbali and 23-year-old Shravya were distant relatives.
