Karnataka Gram Panchayat elections: Model code of conduct comes into effect

The model code of conduct has come in to effect in all rural areas of Karnataka in the wake up of the upcoming gram panchayat elections, reported The Hindu. The elections will be held in two phases in 5,844 gram panchayats. The first phase of the elections will take place on May 29th and the second phase will take place on June 2nd. The polls will be held in 15 districts. As per the model code of conduct, the ministers are not allowed to use government vehicles for campaigning purposes while touring districts on behalf of the candidates. This election voting has also been made compulsory and 50% reservation of seats have been reserved for women.
