The Karimnagar police in Telangana have shifted the main accused in the case of an alleged stalker murdering a woman outside the District Collectorate in the city, reportedly to the Konaraopet police station, as a precautionary move.

The police decided to shift the accused, identified as Vamshidhar, a native of Kataram village, who was staying in Ramagundam town, after the kin of the deceased victim demanded that he be hanged for his crime. Many also reportedly asked the police to hand over the accused to them.

On Saturday, the victim’s family members also met with Ramagumdam MLA Somarapu Satyanarayana and demanded justice. The legislator assured them that there would be an ex gratia from the state government.

24-year-old Vootla Roshini alias Prasagna, who hailed from Godavarikhani village, was murdered in broad daylight after Vamshidhar allegedly slit her throat in front of the Collectorate office.

She had been working at a local Mee Seva centre in front of the collectorate for the past two months.

Eye witnesses told the police that Vamshidhar approached Roshini and struck up a conversation with her, before he dragged her out of the centre and slit her throat on the road, even as passersby watched.

The woman succumbed to her injuries on the way to the hospital.

Some reports suggest that he also tried to kill himself after committing the crime. Visuals of the incident show some locals thrashing the man, before he was handed over to the police.

The police are yet to establish the motive behind the crime but suspect that the accused had been stalking the woman over the past few months.

This incident took place just two weeks after a 19-year-old woman was brutally murdered in public in Hyderabad’s Yousufguda area.

The victim, as Venkata Laxmi, was sitting behind the counter at a bangle shop where she worked, when the assailant entered the store with a knife, picked up an argument with the victim, before slitting her throat and fleeing the place.
