Kapil Dev pleased with Ranveer's recreation of iconic 'Nataraj shot'
Kapil Dev’s iconic “Natraj shot” bowled over cricket fans in the country when they first saw it. Now, the veteran cricketer sure is pleased with the picture posted by actor Ranveer Singh on Twitter recently.
Ranveer will be playing Kapil Dev on screen in his upcoming biopic 83, that is based on the 1983 World Cup winning squad.
The Natraj shot, as seen in the picture, comes off as a combination of poise and power. The ace cricketer would twist his body while lifting his left leg, his stance resembling Lord Nataraja’s striking dance pose. Meanwhile, he would swing his bat to his left and the ball would bounce off in a 180 degree angle from his bat. Quite a shot!
Ranveer's close resemblance to Kapil Dev has been appreciated by many. From his appearance to his stance, the actor seems to have nailed the role.

Several months ago, Ranveer had posted a video of Kapil demonstrating the Natraj shot, on his Instagram account.
In that split second, Kapil’s pose looks a lot like Nataraja himself. The Nataraja is a dancing god, symbolic of Shiva, who is venerated by classical dancers in the south. The Nataraja statue, most commonly cast in bronze, can be called one of the most complex forms to be made. Nataraja is most famous in Chidambaram, a town in Tamil Nadu, where there’s an exclusive temple dedicated to the god.
83 is being directed by Kabir Khan and produced by Vishnu Vardhan Induri. The film will also star Deepika Padukone as Kapil's wife Romi Bhatia, Tahir Raj Bhasin as Sunli Gavaskar, Saqib Saleem as Mohinder Amarnath, Jiiva as Krishnamachari Srikkanth, and Harrdy Sandhu as Madan Lal among others.
The film is expected to release on April 10, 2020.
