The News Minute | November 22, 2014 | 08:32 am IST The Dakshina Kannada district administration on Friday banned the sport of Kambala or buffalo racing, states a report by The Times of India. The ban was imposed by the department of animal husbandry and veterinary sciences based on a Supreme Court order dated May 7. Part of the circular dated November 21, which has reportedly been sent to all government departments and organisations, reads, "The conduct of Kambala festival in Dakshina Kannada district is a violation under Section 3 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960. Hence, to implement the Supreme Court order dated May 7, a direction has been given. Legal action under the act will be taken against officials and Kambala organisers if the Supreme Court order is not adhered to." However, a few ministers seem to be unhappy with the ban, states the report.
