The Ulaga Nayagan, like many of his colleagues in the film industry, was shocked at the news of the demise of Bollywood star Vinod Khanna recently. The star, while condoling the death of Vinod Khanna said that his Achanak, released in1973, prodded him to take to directing films seriously.

He said, “Achanak is a film that changed my life. When I saw it at 18 for the first time, I was encouraged to become a director. This man didn’t know it at that time. But Vinod Khanna was a precursor to Stallone’s First Blood. It’s the story of a betrayed commando who goes on a rampage. Sylvester Stallone did it many years ago. Now, I want to see where I can take this character.”

Directed by Gulzar, the film was produced by Raj N. Sippy and Romu N. Sippy. The film starred Vinod Khanna, Lily Chakravarty and Asrani in the star cast with Vinod Khanna playing the betrayed soldier who goes on a rampage killing his wife for infidelity.

Kamal Haasan took his Sabaash Naidu to floors last year but the film endured several roadblocks. Initially, its director TK Rajeev Kumar suffered a major illness, which drove Kamal Haasan to take over as the director. Then the film’s progress was stalled due to the leg fracture he suffered after a fall from the staircase at his residence. According to the latest buzz, the film has currently been put on the backburner due to financial issues. Meanwhile, the star’s long pending project, Vishwaroopam 2’s post-production has commenced and it is expected to hit the silver screens later this year.

If the Achanak remake materialises, then the star would certainly add his own touch to the remake, which will make it all the more interesting.
