The Karnataka government has assembled a team of 10 medical experts from Victoria Hospital for providing additional support for the treatment of those injured in the Kollam temple fire.

The team, led by Dr Smitha Sehu, consists of burns experts and support staff from the Bangalore Medical College and Victoria Hospital. The team is well-equipped with supplies of units of blood and critical medicines and other medical supplies, and has been placed on a standby alert in case its support is required in Kerala.

The Health Department of Karnataka is in coordination with the Regional Medical Officer in Kollam. Kerala’s health secretary has informed the health department here that currently its facilities are adequate to the task on hand, but that an emergency request for assistance would be placed if needed.

The Health Minister UT Khader told The News Minute that the medical team would fly out to Thiruvananthapuram in the evening if their support is required. “So far, they are able to manage. But they have asked us to keep medical supplies on hold if they are required,” he said.
