The much-awaited Supreme Court verdict in the Disproportionate Assets case, in which VK Sasikala was co-accused, was delivered on Tuesday. With both judges upholding the trial court's verdict, Sasikala has been convicted, putting an end to her ambition to become the Tamil Nadu CM in the near future.

From Kollywood’s leading lights, a mixture of relief and gratitude rose immediately after the news of the conviction broke.

Actor and National Spokesperson of the Congress Khushbu said "justice prevails” and added that, as a citizen of Tamil Nadu, she was "relieved".

Actor Kamal Haasan, who has been vocal in his criticism of Sasikala and her family, summarised his views through a song that said, "That the wrong person will win shall not happen always, time will change and justice will prevail."

He had tweeted earlier in the morning that there would be a verdict today, but it shouldn't be seen as a solution. He'd also said, “the patient ones will rule the world”.

Arvind Swami tweeted that he hoped the MLAs would now get back to "civilization". He also cautioned both sides against too much celebration, reminding them what the trial court's verdict was - probably drawing attention to  the late CM Jayalalithaa's conviction.

Singer Chinmayi, who has been actively discussing Tamil Nadu politics on her Facebook wall, simply put up emoticons of palms joined together to indicate gratitude.

Actor Gautami’s fiery letters to the Centre about late TN CM Jayalalithaa's hospitalisation had left no room for doubt about her views on the Sasikala family. She had said Sasikala owes an explanation for the 75 days that Jayalalithaa had been hospitalised. She tweeted that while justice had been served in the DA case, Sasikala still had to answer for Jayalalithaa's death.

Actor and director R Parthiban who'd come out in support of O Panneerselvam a few days ago, tweeted his thanks to the judges who'd "upheld justice" without allowing the law to be bent by those with money.
