Actor Jr NTR's Jai Lava Kusa opened to packed theatres on Friday and to much critical acclaim.
According to reports, the Telugu film did well, not just in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, but also in Bengaluru, Chennai and Mumbai. The film takes inspiration from the Ramayana and tells the story of triplets, one of whom models himself on Raavan. Though set in contemporary times, the mythological aspects have been woven into the script skillfully.
Telugu cinema is fond of mythological films and the success of Baahubali, just a few months earlier is proof of that. Besides, Tarak's grandfather, NTR, is still remembered for his portrayal of Rama and Krishna.
Junior NTR's performance in three roles has been commended by the audience as well as critics. His last release Janatha Garage, was also a blockbuster.
According to its makers, Jai Lava Kusa reportedly grossed Rs 30 crore on its opening day across the Telugu states, while it raked in approximately Rs 42 crore worldwide.
Following is the breakup of the net revenues on Day 1, provided by the makers of the film, according to reports:
Nizam= Rs 5 crore
Ceded= Rs 4.01 crore
Nellore= Rs 1.08 crore
Guntur= Rs 3.05 crore
Krishna= Rs 1.7 crore
West Godavari= Rs 1.8 crore
East Godavari= Rs 2.96 crore
Uttar Andhra= Rs 1.89 crore
Total net revenue = Rs 21.54 crore
Trade analyst Ramesh Bala took to Twitter, and said that the US box office collections alone for day 1, were $905,000 (Rs 5.87 crore), adding that it could become $1 million (Rs 6.48 crore) soon.

Movie critic Taran Adarsh, tweeted, "Telugu film Jai Lava Kusa debuts at No 18 at USA Box Office."
Directed by KS Ravindra aka Bobby, the film has Raashi Khanna and Nivetha Thomas playing the female leads with Tammannah Bhatia making a special appearance.
The film has been written by KS Ravindra along with director Kona Venkat and K. Chakravarthy.
Jai Lava Kusa is produced by Jr NTRâ€™s brother and actor Nandamuri Kalyan Ram under their home banner NTR Arts. Devi Sri Prasad has composed music for this flick with Chota K Naidu cranking the camera and Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao editing it.
This magnum opus hit the silver screens on September 21, to cash in on the Dasara holiday season.
