Best known for his performance in award-winning Tamil films such as Aaranya Kaandam and Joker, actor Guru Somasundaram is the latest addition to the cast of Rajinikanth’s upcoming yet-untitled film with Karthik Subbaraj. This will be Somu’s third association with Subbaraj after Jigarthanda and Bench Talkies, which was produced by the latter.

Over the last couple of days, reports have been doing the rounds about Guru’s inclusion in the project but the makers are yet to make an official announcement. Meanwhile, Guru awaits the release of his next film Vanjagar Ulagam on September 7.

Going by the cast, Thalaivar 165 is easily the most anticipated upcoming Tamil multi-starrers. The film also stars Trisha, Vijay Sethupathi, Simran and Bobby Simhaa in crucial roles. If the industry grapevine is anything to go by, then Megha Akash, who made her acting debut opposite Dhanush in Enai Noki Paayum Thota, has also been signed for the project. This film marks the Tamil debut of Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who is believed to be playing Rajinikanth’s friend in the film.

On teaming up with Rajinikanth, Subbaraj said in a chat with Sun TV recently: “Even though I’ve made four films in my career so far, I grew fascinated towards cinema because of superstar Rajinikanth sir. To get to direct him is the best moment of my life,” Subbaraj said, adding that he plans to wrap up the project this year itself.

Asked if the project will be as ambitious as Sun Pictures produced Enthiran in terms of scale, Subbaraj said his film will be quite different from Enthiran. “It’ll be a proper Rajini film,” he said. He also sees collaborating with the superstar will come with its set of expectations and high responsibility. “I see it as an enjoyable challenge.” Anirudh Ravichander is composing the music.
