The first look of Suriya’s Soorarai Pottru was released by its makers on Sunday. The poster features the star sporting a muscular look and jumping up with his arms wide open, while the city lies far behind him.

Helmed by Sudha Kongara, Soorarai Pottru is touted to be based on the life of Captain GR Gopinath, founder of budget airline Air Deccan. Veteran Bollywood actor Paresh Rawal, who has predominantly played character and comic roles over his three-decade-long career, is all set to make his Tamil debut with this film.

Meanwhile, reports surfaced on social media that Bollywood star John Abraham, who watched a couple of action sequences from Soorarai Pottru, is keen on remaking the film in Hindi. Sources told DT Next, “Anbariv recently met John Abraham and showed a few scenes to him. The actor was all praise for Suriya and the director of the film. He also expressed an interest in meeting Sudha Kongara to discuss the possibilities of working together for Hindi remake. However, everything is in the initial stage.”

Produced by Suriya’s 2D Entertainment, the film also marks the southern debut of well-known Bollywood producer Guneet Monga, who will be co-producing this project. The film, which marks the first-time collaboration of Suriya and Sudha, has music by GV Prakash. The film is expected to release in the summer next year.

The film also stars Telugu veteran actor Mohan Babu and Malayalam actor Aparna Balamurali. Last seen on screen in a cameo in the Savitri biopic Mahanati, it is rumoured that Mohan Babu plays the antagonist in Soorarai Pottru.

Suriya also has a project with director Siva in the pipeline, which is most likely to go on the floors after Siva completes his film with Superstar Rajinikanth that was announced recently.

Suriya’s first release of the year was the Selvaraghavan directed political thriller NGK while his second film was KV Anand’s Kaappaan, but both the films did not perform well at the box-office, receiving a lukewarm response from audiences and critics.
