High drama prevailed at the booth-level JD(S) party meet at Mysuru on Wednesday, when party President HD Kumaraswamy slapped a party worker in a fit of rage.

Hundreds of party workers had gathered at Sara Convention Hall in Mysuru. On Wednesday afternoon, supporters of Harish Gowda, the son of JD(S) MLA from Hunsur, GT Deve Gowda, demanded that Harish be given the ticket to contest from the Hunsur constituency for the 2018 Assembly elections.

Kumaraswamy was exiting the convention hall and was surrounded by party workers, when a supporter of Harish Gowda walked up to him and demanded that the Hunsur ticket be given to Harish.

The JD(S) President, then began walking away, when another party worker stopped him near the door and put for the same demand. Kumaraswamy, who lost his cool, ended up slapping the party worker in return.

“There are many constituencies which have more than one aspirant for a ticket to the 2018 Assembly polls. These aspirant leaders have their followers and the purpose of the booth level meet was to ensure that there is no groupism within the party. I will sit down and discuss the workers’ issues and find a solution which is agreeable to all parties involved,” Kumaraswmay told media persons.

Harish Kumar, on the other hand said that he became aware of the goings-on only after media persons contacted him for a comment.

“I am in Tirupati. I had come to visit the temple. I do not know which party worker was slapped or what exactly happened. It may be true that some of my supporters may have asked Kumaraswamy to give the Hunsur seat to me as HD Revanna’s son, Prajwal Revanna is also an aspirant for the same seat. But we will abide by the High Command’s orders, no matter what,” Harish Gowda said.

He, however, admitted that he wanted to contest the Assembly elections from Hunsur constituency. “My father has worker for the constituency and JD(S) for over 20 years and I have also donated my time and efforts to the party. During the zilla panchayat and taluk panchayat elections in Hunsur, Kumaraswamy had announced to a gathering that I would be in charge of the election campaign for the 2018 polls. I will talk to Kumaraswamy and sort out this issue,” Harish Gowda added.
