J Jayalalithaa is all set to return as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on Saturday. A day that began early with the Legislature party of the AIADMK unanimously electing J Jayalalithaa as its leader, it was the leader’s first appearance in the public sphere in seven months.  Stepping out along with her convoy, Jayalalithaa appeared smiling as she acknowledged supporters gathered across the city waiting for her. With a police barricade adorning each side of the road leading to her Poes Garden residence, supporters chanted and threw flowers as her convoy made its way slowly past the crowd.  Heading out from her residence, Jayalalithaa called upon TN governor , K Rosaiah at Raj Bhavan who earlier had invited her to be Chief Minister following O Panneerselvam’s resignation as Chief Minister.  Submitting a list of 29 names for her Cabinet, Jayalalithaa remained at the Governor’s residence for 30 minutes before leaving to pay tribute at AIADMK founder, MG Ramachandran’s statue at Anna Salai.  Dressed in her symbolic green sari sitting in the front seat , accompanied by her convoy, Jayalalithaa appeared smiling in a car decorated brightly with lights. Leaving her Poes Garden residence at 1.28 pm, she returned about two hours later to patiently waiting supporters.  With Amma’s first appearance in a long time, huge crowds of supporters gathered across the city including Anna Salai and the Marina Beach hoping to catch a glimpse of their leader. At various locations, temporary stages were set up with dancers dancing to the tunes of MGR and Jayalalithaa’s old movie songs.  As of now, Jayalalithaa is one step closer for her return as Chief Minister scheduled to be held on Saturday morning at the Madras University Centenary Auditorium. The city saw an unprecedented display of party support with vehicles carrying AIADMK supporters and flags making their presence felt everywhere Jayalalithaa was set to pass by. However, those affected most on Friday were common citizens commuting with clogged roads near Anna Salai and Beach road. With unusual traffic on these roads after non-peak hours, the extra presence of police men were used to cordon off the roads leaving vehicles waiting as Jayalalithaa’s convoy passed.
