J Jayalalithaa is all set to return as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on Saturday.A day that began early with the Legislature party of the AIADMK unanimously electing J Jayalalithaa as its leader, it was the leader’s first appearance in the public sphere in seven months. Stepping out along with her convoy, Jayalalithaa appeared smiling as she acknowledged supporters gathered across the city waiting for her. With a police barricade adorning each side of the road leading to her Poes Garden residence, supporters chanted and threw flowers as her convoy made its way slowly past the crowd. Heading out from her residence, Jayalalithaa called upon TN governor , K Rosaiah at Raj Bhavan who earlier had invited her to be Chief Minister following O Panneerselvam’s resignation as Chief Minister. Submitting a list of 29 names for her Cabinet, Jayalalithaa remained at the Governor’s residence for 30 minutes before leaving to pay tribute at AIADMK founder, MG Ramachandran’s statue at Anna Salai. Dressed in her symbolic green sari sitting in the front seat , accompanied by her convoy, Jayalalithaa appeared smiling in a car decorated brightly with lights. Leaving her Poes Garden residence at 1.28 pm, she returned about two hours later to patiently waiting supporters. With Amma’s first appearance in a long time, huge crowds of supporters gathered across the city including Anna Salai and the Marina Beach hoping to catch a glimpse of their leader. At various locations, temporary stages were set up with dancers dancing to the tunes of MGR and Jayalalithaa’s old movie songs. As of now, Jayalalithaa is one step closer for her return as Chief Minister scheduled to be held on Saturday morning at the Madras University Centenary Auditorium. The city saw an unprecedented display of party support with vehicles carrying AIADMK supporters and flags making their presence felt everywhere Jayalalithaa was set to pass by. However, those affected most on Friday were common citizens commuting with clogged roads near Anna Salai and Beach road. With unusual traffic on these roads after non-peak hours, the extra presence of police men were used to cordon off the roads leaving vehicles waiting as Jayalalithaa’s convoy passed.Jayalalithaa meeting Governor K Rosaiah at Raj BhavanThe ball was set rolling after the Legislature party of the AIADMK met at the party headquarters at 7:00am in the morning. A man relinquishing his Chief Minister post for the second time in his life, O Paneerselvam was one of the first to arrive at the meeting. A total of 144 AIADMK Mlas were part of the Legislature meeting in which Jayalalithaa was elected as the leader, unanimously. The meeting ended within just 15 minutes. Soon after the meeting O Paneerselvam emerged out armed with the LP letter.An hour after the meeting, O Panneerselvam stepped down as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu after he submitted his resignation at the Raj Bhavan. Following her election, celebrations broke out at the AIADMK headquarters as the formality concluded.O Paneerselvam with other leaders like Natham Vishwanathan immediately went to Jayalalithaa's Poes Garden residence. Almost 10 lakh cadres of the AIADMK were reportedly in Chennai to witness Jayalalithaa stepping out of her residence, for the first time in seven months. More than 7,000 police personnel have been deployed in the city.
