The Income Tax department conducted a surprise raid in the AIADMK counselor’s house in Hosur on Thursday night, after receiving a tip-off regarding a ‘cash-for-vote’ scam.
The IT department was instructed to conduct the raid upon directions from the Election Commission, reported News 7. Upon spotting the IT officials, the people involved in distribution of money set off to AIADMK counselor Sakthivel’s house, where the raid was subsequently conducted.
With only three more days before the state goes into polling, the cash seizure count currently stands at over Rs 100 crore in Tamil Nadu. The EC has deployed over 7500 flying squads to keep a check on illegal cash transactions across all districts in the states going in for polls. In addition, 118 probationers have also been employed to assist in the surveillance.
