| The News Minute | March 14, 2015 | 2.12 pm IST |The Siddaramaiah government has increased the quantum of financial assistance that an inter-caste couples who wish to get married can avail of.Until now, the state government would provide financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh to an inter-caste couple who wished to get married. In the budget presented on Friday, chief minister Siddaramaiah, who also holds the Finance portfolio, raised the amount up to Rs 3 lakh, depending on the eligibility of the candidate.A woman belonging to any of the Scheduled Castes and wishing to marry a non-SC man could be granted Rs 3 lakh. Earlier, such a couple was eligible for Rs 1 lakh. Similarly, a man belonging to a Scheduled Caste community and marrying a non-SC woman would now be given Rs 2 lakh increased from the earlier amount of Rs 50,000.The Karnataka government is not the only state government to have such schemes in place. Several states such as Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan have such schemes. Often, the schemes are structured with assistance from the centre, where the centre and state share the cost of the total amount to be granted to a couple.Tweet  Follow @thenewsminute
