Indrani Mukerjea, the prime accused in the Sheena Bora murder case, is in serious medical condition. She was admitted to Mumbai’s JJ Hospital on Friday, after she complained of uneasiness in Byculla jail where she was lodged, according to the dean of JJ Hospital, say media reports. It is also being reported that she attempted suicide.

Latest TV reports however suggest that her condition is improving and she is in semi-conscious state. She will be kept in observation for at least three days, say TV reports.

Indrani is suspected to have overdosed on her anti-epileptic pills, say reports.

"Indrani Mukerjea was brought here at 2pm. She is unconscious since the time she was brought here. Her condition is serious," dean TP Lahane of JJ Hospital told TOI. He told DNA that she is being treated for poisoning, “"We are not sure if she had consumed all the pills together. The stomach wash has been sent to Kalina FSL for forensic analysis.” The dean also reportedly said that her vital parameters were well maintained.

"We suspect that she was collecting her epilepsy medication and has probably consumed all of it. She has a bit of respiratory depression," he added, reports TOI

Jail authorities apparently gave a medical history that she was on anti-epileptic pills since September 11. She was started on them after she started suffering convulsions.

Jail IG told TOI that she used to take two pills, one in morning and one in evening, under the supervision of jail authorities. The jail IG has now summoned the concerned prison authorities who used to monitor her medication.

DNA reports,

Bipin Kumar Singh, Inspector General (Prisons), said: "On Friday afternoon, Indrani fainted and collapsed. She was rushed to the hospital and we are awaiting the reports from the hospital. There were some medicines that she was taking on the prescription of the doctors. But as per my knowledge, that medicine was stopped a few days back". The jail authorities suspect that instead of taking her medicine daily, Indrani was hoarding them and finally had it at one go on Friday afternoon.
