The News Minute| April 5, 2015| 12.00 pm ISTBorn and brought up in Mumbai , Arjun Kanungo dropped everything that he was doing back in New York at the age of 17 to pursue his career in music back home. Soon after many freelance jobs, he became a part of Asha Bhosle’s band, and also the voice behind the hit Bollywood number ‘Khoon Choos le’.“I was quite blown away by the reception at YTFF. It's amazing that as creative people today, we can release content for the world to see without anyone's help or approval,” said Kanungo who also featured at the Youtube Fan Fest(YTFF).Just the second YTFF to be held in India, the hugely successful event gave excited fans a chance to meet their favourite Internet heroes in the flesh. From The Viral Fever, Superwoman aka Lily Singh, Shankar Tucker and the All India Bakchod, the event conducted regularly across the world gave a chance for a variety of artists and their fans to connect in person.Ranging from comedians to singers and musicians, the celebrity list included the who’s who of the Indian internet artist world. How important is the internet medium for artists like Kanungo today? “If you are an artist today and you don't have a presence on the internet, you're doing something wrong. This is not to say that TV and other traditional mediums are not important, but I feel like increasingly, people are moving away from said traditional mediums and moving towards the madness and chaos and awesomeness of the internet.”“ We are artists just trying to make a living with what we do at the end of the day and that's the whole concept of the song and video: Hope and ambition. "Hope is our weapon" , said Kanungo who has released a song as a tribute to the event. Collaborating with artists Slumgods, Dopeadelicz and Madari Mudgal, Arjun made this video aptly titled ‘Umeedein’ which features a host of other artists that took part in the YTFF.A unique collaboration of sorts, this one. (Image courtesy: Youtube Fan fest Facebook page)
