Two of South India’s best institutes for management education have made it to the top 15 of the prestigious QS MBA Rankings for Asia.

In the latest QS MBA Rankings for the Asia and Australia, New Zealand region, Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIM-B) and Indian School of Business (ISB), Hyderabad are ranked 9th and 12th respectively. In this list, IIM Ahmedabad stands at 7 while IIM Calcutta is at 18.

This list is topped by INSEAD business school in Paris, followed by CEIBS, Shanghai and Melbourne Business School.

Globally, IIM-B is ranked 58th while ISB is at 93. Harvard tops this list followed by INSEAD and HEC Paris. IIM Ahmedabad stands at 49. CEIBS Shanghai is the highest ranked Asian university globally at 28. University of Hong Kong at 38 and National University of Singapore at 42 are the other Asian universities in the top 50.

The rankings are based on five factors — Employability; Entrepreneurship and Alumni Outcomes; Return on Investment; Thought Leadership; and Diversity.

Employability was the most important factor in preparing the rankings with 40% weightage while Return on Investment had 20% weightage.

Thought Leadership as well as Entrepreneurship and Alumni Outcomes were given 15% weightage each while Class and Faculty Diversity got 10%.

Recently, more than two lakh students appeared for the Common Admission Test (CAT) for entry to IIMs and other B-schools in India. Other top entrance exams include SNAP and XAT for admission in Symbiosis University and Xavier associate institutes including the Xavier Labour Research Institute (XLRI).

But lately, the coveted MBA degree has lost its sheen. The Economic Times reported that more than 50% of the graduates did not get a job after finishing their course.

An ASSOCHAM report said that only 7% of MBA graduates of B-schools, leaving aside those from the top 20 colleges, got a job soon after completing their course.
