A century by Rohit Sharma propelled India to a score of 336-5 in the crunch World Cup match against Pakistan at Manchester.

The highly anticipated clash was interrupted by rain as expected with 20 balls left of India’s 50 overs. By then, India had amassed 297 runs with Rohit scoring a fine 140.

Rohit looked in sublime touch from the early stages of the innings and brought up his third century in World Cups in vintage fashion. He got to his 100 in 85 balls, hitting nine fours and three sixes.

KL Rahul gave him company at the other end before being dismissed for 57. The pair, opening together for the first time, broke a 23-year-old record set by Sachin Tendulkar and Navjot Singh Sidhu for the highest opening partnership in a World Cup match against Pakistan.

But after Rahul spooned a Wahab Riaz delivery to Babar Azam at covers, captain Virat Kohli joined Rohit in the middle.

Rohit continued to dictate terms as he brought up his 50 in just 34 deliveries with the help of six fours and two sixes.

The 32-year old was lucky to survive a run out chance in the 11th over when a hesitation between him and Rahul saw Rohit way out of his crease, as Shadab Khan did superbly well to pick up the ball one-hand but got the direction of the throw wrong. He was eventually dismissed at 140 trying to scoop a shot over the fine leg fielder.

With both the openers gone, skipper Kohli played a solid knock of 77 runs in just 65 balls. Hardik Pandya chipped in with 26.

Mohammed Aamir starred for Pakistan with the ball returning with figures of 3-47. With more rain set to interrupt the game, the Duckworth Lewis method might come into play in the game.
