R Madhavan has never shied away from being a part of multi-starrers be it "Rang De Basanti" or "3 Idiots" and the actor says he may come across as too flexible but in his head he is the main 'hero'.
In the south film industry, Madhavan is a name to reckon with but he has had a journey of hits and misses in Hindi film industry.
"I have ego. It has always been in my mind that I have to play lead roles only. It is still there and will always be. Like I had a nine-minute role in 'Rang De Basanti' but I did it because I knew the movie would become historic... I possess those skills.
"I get to know which film will turn iconic and if I have to do a guest appearance in a movie like this, then I go for such a role that would be remembered with the film. That's the only thing for me," Madhavan told PTI in an interview.
The 45-year-old actor, who will be next seen in "Saala Khadoos", believes it is essential for an actor to feel like a hero and he counts it as the most important thing.
"Ego is very important. It is important for you to picture yourself correctly in your own mind. There's no point going to a set not feeling alpha male. It is important to feel like a hero."
"Saala Khadoos", also starring newcomer Ritika Singh, hits theatres tomorrow.
