Months after businessman VM Radhakrishnan filed a complaint against former excise minister K Babu in connection with issuing licenses to bars in Kerala, investigators from the Vigilance Department questioned Babu on Monday.
According to reports, a team led by DySP Firoz M Shafeeq questioned Babu in advance of the Vigilance Department submitting its chargesheet in the case.
The bar bribery scam had rocked the previous UDF government, as allegations of corruption hit Babu and former finance minister KM Mani.
Speaking to the media outside the vigilance office in Ernakulam, Babu said that he does not expect to get justice from the Vigilance Department.
“I have not done anything that would cause loss to the government. This case is clearly politically motivated. Despite the previous team closing the case, this FIR was registered only days after the LDF government came to power,” K Babu alleged, after he was questioned for nearly two hours.
Bar owner Radhakrishnan alleged in his complaint that K Babu was involved in misusing his position to issue bar-licenses to the tune of Rs 100 crores.
However, the former minister claimed on Monday that businessmen, who faced losses due to the previous government’s bar policy, was targeting him by filing the case.
