Hyderabad witnessed the coldest day recorded in December on Monday, when the temperature dipped to 12.7 degree Celsius.

"Minimum temperature likely to be below normal by 3 to 4 degree Celsius at isolated places over Telangana," the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

The IMD also said that dry weather was very likely to prevail over Telangana. However, it issued no warning for a cold wave.

Quoting data available with the Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS), the Times of India reported that Ramachandrapuram and Patancheru recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 9.2 degree Celsius. followed by Moula Ali at 10.1 degree Celsius and Kapra at 10.4 degree Celsius.

“The temperature will continue to be low for the next two days following which it will observe a rise. There is western disturbance from west to east which is causing drop in the mercury level,” said YK Reddy, in-charge director of IMD told ToI.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Reddy said, “There is a difference of one or two degrees in these places because they have open spaces with a lot of greenery. Usually, the lowest temperatures of the winter are recorded in Khammam district for the same reason. There is no increase in wind movement in these areas, however, there is a noticeable chill in the air."

According to reports, in the 24 hours between Sunday and Monday, the coldest area in the state was Ginnedari in Kumram Bheem Asifabad district, where the minimum temperature dropped to 5.6 degree Celsius.

Last month, temperatures in the city fell to 16 degree Celsius, which was 3 degrees lesser than the normal temperature for that time every year.

According to a bulletin released by the IMD on November 2, Adilabad recorded the lowest minimum temperature, at 12 degree Celsius, followed by Medak at 14 degrees, Khammam and Hyderabad at 16 degrees and Bhadrachalam at 17 degrees.

Hanamkonda, Mahbubnagar, Nizamabad and Ramagundam saw temperatures dip to 18 degree Celsius, while Nalgonda saw a slight increase in temperature, with 23 degrees.

Khammam saw the biggest deviation from normal temperature, as it was 6 degrees colder than the usual temperature.
