In a horrifying incident, two minor twins were raped for almost a year by their neighbours in Hyderabad, with alleged support from the girls' mother.
The Times of India reported that the assaults in Mailardevpally on the southern fringes of the city has sent shock waves through the locality, adding that Jaffar, 40, and his 16-year-old son reportedly raped the two sisters with support from the twins' mother over the past one year.
The police alleged that the mother took money in return for the sexual assault committed on her daughters.
Reports add that the nine-year-old sisters were unable to bear the torture and opened up about the alleged sexual assault to a senior family member, who in turn approached a city-based NGO, which in turn lodged a police complaint.
PTI reported that the twins originally hailed from Nepal but had settled in Hyderabad.
On Thursday, police acted on the complaint and rescued the victims.
"It is a case of rape and both the sisters were victimised and accordingly a case has been registered under 376 (Rape), 370 (trafficking of persons) of IPC and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act," DCP (Shamshabad) Padmaja told TOI.
While Jaffar and the twins' mother are in police custody, the minor boy will be produced before a juvenile court.
