Telangana Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao on Thursday said that the Hyderabad Metro Rail would make its services from Ameerpet to LB Nagar, operational by the last week of July this year.

The Minister was speaking at a ‘Mana Nagaram’ or town hall meeting in LB Nagar, where he also said that the stretch would be inaugurated by Chief Minister K Chandarsekhar Rao.

“The five SRDP projects in LB Nagar constituency costing Rs 448 crore will be completed by June 2019. Works relating to internal roads, storm water drains and sewerage works worth Rs 3,100 crore are being done in the constituency. Close to Rs 1,600 crore has been allocated for beautification of the Musi for which work will begin in August,” KTR was quoted as saying.

“We are ready to develop new parks and playgrounds but is beyond the capacity of the municipal corporation to maintain them throughout the year. Citizens and welfare associations should actively participate in improving the civic situation by joining hands with us,” the Minister added.

He was accompanied at the event by Mayor B Rammohan, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy and Malkajgiri MP Malla Reddy, among others.

If the stretch till LB Nagar opens, it would mean that the entire Corridor 1 of the metro project is completed.

The 30 km-long section of the first corridor from Nagole to Miyapur was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 28 last year and has 24 stations, which covers a large part of the city - from the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium at Uppal to Osmania University and the Secunderabad Railway Station, to other areas like Ameerpet and Kukatpally.

Speaking to the media last month, HMRL Managing Director NVS Reddy said that the 16-km stretch between Ameerpet and LB Nagar as part of Corridor-I would be completed by July this year, while the work between Ameerpet and Hitec City will be done by October.

Meanwhile, works related to Corridor-II between JBS and MGBS are expected to finish early next year.
