The next 10 days may play a crucial role in Jayanth Reddy’s life: He will know whether he can pursue a course that he has applied for, one that he hopes will change his brother’s life.
Twenty-one-year-old Jayanth, who hails from Hyderabad and is currently working in Pune, has been offered admission to the Post Graduate Human Resources Leadership Program (2016-2017) at a b-school in Gurgaon. Securing admission is important for reasons which go beyond his “interest in understanding the intricacies of business”.
In 2013, Jayanth's brother was diagnosed with Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (HUS), a kidney condition caused by the abnormal destruction of red blood cells. Last October, he underwent a kidney transplant. Since his diagnosis as a Class 8 student, he has discontinued his studies.

“I want him to appear for the Class 10 exams next year. It is important he gets his primary education. I want to be in a position to support my brother. Or else what is the point of all that we've been through till now?”
Jayanth lost his father in 2002, and since his brother developed the condition, they have been spending Rs 25-30,000 per month for his treatment.
“My mother can’t work now as she constantly needs to be with him. If my father was alive, he'd take good care of him. But since he is not around, it is my duty to my father to look after my brother,” said Jayanth.
The MBA course, he feels, will get him a job that would pay more than double of what he is earning at present, and hopes that he can raise the money for the course through crowd-funding.
He has created a campaign on Ketto to raise Rs 8 lakh for the course fee. He said that the actual fee of the course is Rs 11.5 lakh and that the college has given him a scholarship of Rs 3.5 lakh.
At the time of writing this piece, Jayanth's campaign had generated Rs 1,50,000, but there is still a long way to go. He needs to get the funds within the next ten days. "I have exhausted all my resources and my network is also limited. It is a make-or-break situation for me. I am hoping that some noble souls out there will help me. I'll only be able to pursue the course if the campaign is successful,” Jayanth added.
