Sanjana, the 5-year-old girl who was battling for her life after she and her mother were hit by a car allegedly driven by a drunken software engineer in Hyderabad, has gained consciousness.

The girl, who was in a coma, also recognized her father Shivanand and uncle Anand on Tuesday.

Speaking to TNM, R Anand, Sanjana’s uncle said, "Yesterday she responded when we called her name. This is our festival gift from god. On this auspicious day, we have hope that she will be fine.”

However, it was reported that she is still critical. "We can ascertain her condition after 48 hours," doctors said.

At around 10 pm on October 2, Sanjana and her mother Sridevi were hit by the speeding car when they were crossing the road from the bus stop at Pedda Amberpet near Hayathnagar.
