The Hyderabad police are in a fix now since the minor girl who was 'married' to a Omani national and trafficked to Muscat is reportedly refusing to return home.

According to reports, the 16-year-old minor, who has been living with the 77-year-old Omani, spoke to her parents again, and denied that she was being harassed.

Deccan Chronicle reported that the police and the parents spoke to the girl and she said, “I am happy and comfortable here. My parents fought over money and lodged a police complaint.”

It was the investigation of this case that led the city police to a massive web of brokers and qazis this week, who ran an elaborate trafficking racket in the city.

The marriage was performed in May at a guest house in Jalpally where the Omani national was staying. He returned home after the marriage and sent a visa for the girl, who later joined him in Muscat.

Later, the girl informed her parents over the phone that her husband was mentally and physically torturing her.

Following this, her mother Fathima* lodged a complaint at the Falaknuma police station that her husband, his sister, Ghousia Begum, and brother-in-law, Sikander, "sold" the girl to the Omani man for Rs 5 lakh.

The girl has however now alleged that her parents were greedy for their share of the money, and filed the complaint due to that.

“The girl has already appeared at the Indian mission and has expressed unwillingness to leave. Unlike most other cases of such marriages, where the woman is sold or slaved, the Omani national seems to be pampering her with riches,” a police official earlier told The Hindu.

However, the police are not backing down, as the 'marriage' was still against Indian law.

The police said that they were still working on getting the girl back, and prosecuting the man.

Meanwhile, the DC report adds that three more Oman nationals were detained by the police in connection with a trafficking case registered at Chandrayangutta police station.

While Sikander and Ghousia have been arrested, the city-based naib qazi Habeeb Ali, who solemnised the nikah, is reported to be on the run.

The police has formed separate teams, to hunt for the absconding qazi.
