A Hyderabad-based seminary, Jamia Nizamia, issued a fatwa on Thursday demanding the removal or changing of the controversial lyrics from the viral song Manikya Malaraya Poovi featuring the sensational ‘winking girl’ Priya Prakash Varrier.

The seminary urged the makers of Oru Adaar Love to remove the controversial song which allegedly hurts their sentiments as the lyrics have references to the love relationship between Prophet Muhammed and his wife Khadeeja Bivi.

“Our objection is not for the film, but a song that references the Prophet and his wife. The director should have used some other characters to depict the couple’s relationship. Why did he take the name of the Prophet? That is why we issued this fatwa seeking that the song be dropped from the film,” said Jamia Nizamia secretary Ahmed Ali, Hindustan Times quoted him as saying.

The seminary also urged the government to prevent the screening of the film until the song was removed.

Although the film’s director Omar Lulu has given a clarification that it is a  commonly sung song in Malabar region of Kerala, many Muslim groups have expressed strong objection to the song.

It may be recalled that a case has already been registered against the director in Hyderabad’s Falaknuma police station under section 295 A (Deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings). The complainant is a Muslim group which alleged that the lyrics were blasphemous as it mentions about Prophet Mohammed and his wife.

Despite drawing flak from religious outfits, the film’s director Omar on Friday said that he will not remove the song.

"Instead, I am planning to meet Muslim religious heads in Kerala and seek their opinion and support. Already, we had received overwhelming support from various sections asking us not to drop the song from YouTube and the movie." The Hindu reported.
