The wife of Dutch national Mike Kamminga, arrested by the Telangana Prohibition and Excise department as an accused in the recent drug bust in Hyderabad, has spoken out on the issue.

Stating that Mike was innocent and implicated, Mary Kamminga called it a case of mistaken identity.

Mike was arrested on July 26 from his house in Hyderabad, with officials stating that he was found in possession of DMT (Dimethyltryptamine), while also suspecting that he was dealing in Lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) and methylenedioxy-Methamphetamine (MDMA).

According to the Times of India, Mary spoke to a local TV channel, where she said, “A task force official of the excise department called us and asked us to return to the house. We arrived one-and-half hours after the cops arrived there. After we reached, task force officials told us that they found drugs in the house and took Mike,” Mary said.

“I think all the allegations against Mike are wrong. I do not know on what grounds they picked him up. People who know him in my community know his nature. He is not a peddler and he never had a bad record. He is a very good employer. He trained a lot of people in the field. Friends and family will vouch for him. I think this is a case of mistaken identity. I have seen a man who visits my residential community and looks just like Mike. Same kind of hair and beard,“ Mary added.

However, investigators say otherwise.

The Deccan Chronicle quoted a source as saying, "He tried to destroy key evidence, including iPhone password, and mailing and social media account details. When he came back with his wife to his residence by the car, there was a high drama. He didn't get down from the car for a few minutes and tried to destroy the mobile phone information."

Meanwhile, an online campaign has been started by Mike's friends and relatives, to set him free.

Besides a Facebook page titled 'Free Mikey', several of his friends have uploaded short videos of themselves, talking about how long they knew Mike, and claiming that he was not a drug user or peddler.

"He is currently in jail, without the chance of bail, and his in the process of being taken away from his wife and two children. In the process of this case, his personal life has been paraded in the media, including photos of his family and passport number. He has also lost his job, and as such his legal status in India. The Mike Kamminga that I know, is kind, generous and such accusations seem outrageous and hardly justifiable, with the little evidence that was produced by the police," Lukas Engelhardt, one of Mike's friends had earlier said.

All the videos posted in support of Mike, can be found here.

In June, a sensational racket busted by authorities found that about 1,000 students of leading private schools and colleges in the city were using high-end drugs such as LSD and MDMA. Some of them were as young as 13.

The racket also exposed the dark underbelly of Tollywood, as the dealers were also supplying drugs to several personalities from the Telugu industry.

Investigators had earlier said that Mike Kamminga's arrest was being considered a major breakthrough as he was reportedly supplying the drugs to peddlers from Europe.

Officials also said that he might be the link between the drug bust and its connection to techies in Hyderabad from several MNCs, who were consuming drugs.
