A week after criticizing the shortcomings of Muslim Personal Law and pointing to its discrimination against women, Kerala High court judge B Kemal Pasha on Saturday said that there were attempts in social media to portray him as anti-religious.

The Justice also criticized the media for reporting his observations out of context.

“I am a Muslim who firmly believes in the Quran. It is a private matter and I don't have to convince anyone (about this),“ he said, The Times of India reports.

He said that a popular Malayalam daily had mentioned his name while giving an apology for publishing an offensive comment made by `an anti-social and mean person' against the Prophet.

“But the apology tendered by the daily was at my expense, and the daily should actually apologize to me as it is a matter that affects me directly and it has hurt the feelings of several people,“ he said.

He also added that he won’t compel the daily to tender apology.
