The News Minute| June 20, 2014| 12.25 pm ISTMembers of the Hindu Munnai and Sangh Parivar went on a rampage across Chennai protesting against the murder of Munnani leader K.P. Suresh Kumar. Kumar, President of the Hindu Munnani’s Tiruvallar East unit, was hacked to death on Wednesday night. The attack took place near the office of the Joint Commissioner of Police as Suresh was locking up his phone booth. No arrests have been made in the case so far.Several people were injured by the mob which also damaged 30 vehicles and attacked a church. The police eventually took to lathicharge. 29 people have been held. However, the police have not made any arrest with regard to the murder. A police officer investigating the case has said that Kumar had come under the scanner for a hate speech case in December and also seemed to have gotten involved in business conflicts with scrap dealers in the area.According to a The Times of India report, Munnani sources said that their Tiruvallar office received an anonymous letter six months ago threatening to kill Kumar over the hate speech. However, the sender was not traced.In July last year, the Tamil Nadu State Secretary of the Hindu Munnani- S Vellaiyappan was murdered in Vellore.
