A head constable deputed to Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao's farmhouse in Gajwel killed himself on Wednesday. The incident took place at around 10.30 am.

The victim was identified as Venkateshwarlu, a native of Valigonda village of Yadadri-Bhongir district. Venkateshwarulu belonged to the Telangana Special Police company, 12th Battalion, and was deputed as the security guard in-charge at the farmhouse.

Though news reports speculated that the constable could have killed himself due to alleged harassment from higher officials, police denied this and said that the constable was in an inebriated condition when he took his own life.

According to officials, Venkateshwarulu was an alcoholic who underwent de-addiction treatment at a private hospital for more than a month during September. However, even after the treatment he again got addicted to alcohol. “He took unauthorized leave for the past two days. However, the duty officer took him back yesterday after his wife came along and requested the officer,” said Siddipet Commissioner of Police, Joel Davis to TNM.

“Prima facie investigation reveals that the alcohol addiction made him to kill himself,” he added.

Police have shifted his body to Gajwel hospital for a post-mortem.

Venkateshwarulu joined the service in 2003, and is survived by his wife and two children who stay in Valigonda. According to police, he was once suspended for almost a year in 2006 for allegedly abusing and harassing a woman. He was also reprimanded on several occasions for taking unauthorized leaves.
