The News Minute | August 5, 2014 | 5.39 pm ISTRamnagara police have booked a guest teacher for sexual assaulting eight-year-old girl in a school on the outskirts of Bangalore on Monday.Ramnagara district Superintendent of Police Anupam Agrawal told The News Minute that police had booked the two based on the complaint of the child, after the child’s parents confronted the police.He said that the police had booked cases against Chandramouli (63) under Section 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) for sexually assaulting the child. The offence carries a sentence of three to five years of imprisonment, along with a fine. Chandramouli is a retired postman and the friend of the PrincipaL Lakshmikant, who had asked him to teach at the school.The girl had brought the matter to the notice of her parents who went to the school and approached the Lakshmikant on Monday. When Lakshmikant took his friend’s side, there was an altercation between the parents and others and the principal. This was when the police became involved, Agrawal said. Lakshmikant has been booked under Section 21 of the POCSO act for failure to report an offence and is punishable with imprisonment of six months to one year along with a fine.Agrawal said that the girl had been abused two or three times before the matter came to light. In the last case, Chandramouli and summoned her to a private room and attempted to molest her. The nature of the assault is not clearly known at this point.
