Gauthami, after a long hiatus, will be staging a comeback to the Malayalam film industry. The veteran is playing the lead role, Malathi Menon, in the horror thriller titled E – The Movie. The teaser of the film, which was released a couple of days ago, gives the impression that Malathi lives in a haunted house that has a secret that waits to be unlocked.
What ensues forms the rest of the story. E is directed by Kukku Surendran with Sangeeth Sivan and Amin and Saahil Surani producing the venture under the banner AS Productions. The film is based on the novel The Unknown by Rohan Bajaj.
Gauthami made a re-entry to filmdom in 2015 with the Drishyam remake Papanasam in which she shared screen space with Kamal Haasan. The last time Gauthami was seen in a Malayalam film was in the 2003 release Varum Varunnu Vannu. Apart from E – The Film, Gauthami also has another Malayalam film Vishwasapoorvam Mansoor in her kitty.
The actor made her acting debut in 1987 with the Telugu film Dayamayudu and her debut in Kollywood was with Guru Sishyan in which she was paired opposite Superstar Rajinikanth. She went on to share screen space with some of the top stars including Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Murali, Sathyaraj, Mammootty, Nagarjuna, and V Ravichandran. Gauthami has acted in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi films in her long career. Her debut Hindi film Aadmi, released in 1993 starred Mithu Chakraborthy as her lead pair.
Some of the Malayalam films that Gauthami had starred include His Highness Abdulla, starring Mohanlal, Dhruvam, starring Mammootty, and Daddy, starring Arvind Swamy.
