Four residents of the Sports Authority of India (SAI) girl’s hostel in Alappuzha district of Kerala allegedly tried to commit suicide on Thursday, and one girl has died.   The girls who were all rowers, were found poisoned on Wednesday evening and were rushed to Alappuzha medical college. The one who died has been identified as Aparna a resident of Aryad village.   Sports Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Thursday ordered a probe into the incident and directed the Director General of SAI to "rush to the spot" and give him a "factual report."   Expresseing condolences to the bereaved family, the minister said, "The young girl who has died was a very promising sportsperson. It is a big loss to the country in general and Sports Authority of India and sports fraternity in particular."   He also promised that strict measures will be taken agaisnt those found guilty in connection with the incident.   The priority of the government at this point is to provide the three girls with the best possible treatment, he added.   Kerala police have registered a case of unnatural death and said though it primafacie looks like a case of suicide, no reason has yet been identified.   “As per primary investigation they have consumed some poisonous fruit with the intention to commit suicide. The reason is not yet identified; will begin the probe today itself. We have been told that they were harassed,” said an official from Alappuzha police station.   Relatives of Aparna alleged that mental and physical torture from the authorities was the reason behind her decision to take such a drastic step. According to some reports, the girls were allegedly harrased by their trainer.   Though on Wednesday evening doctors had said that the girls were out of danger, Aparna passed away early morning.   Sai Director Kishore has ordered a probe into the incident.
