Flipkart has reworked on its furniture category and has launched a separate store within its online platform called ‘FurniSure’. This will display a range of furniture that are sold with some unique add-ons, such as quality certification compatible with international norms for such tests and certifications.

The other is an improved model of quick delivery and installation through Ekart and Jeeves respectively. Flipkart hopes its move would bring in a breath of fresh air in a largely unorganized sector in the country and also fill a huge void where customers are not sure of the quality of furniture they are investing in.

Flipkart says in the first phase products from 250 odd vendors on their platform would offer furniture that carry the Durability Certificate. These items of furniture, the company claims, are tested under stimulated conditions for normal usage for a period of 10 years and are the buyers are therefore assured that the range of products they buy in ‘FurniSure’ on Flipkart, will last at least that period without any hassles.

“Furniture shopping in India is an activity the whole family participates in, and it is a mature, highly organised market. Yet, despite its important place in Indian retail and society, one-third of customers say they can never be sure of the quality of furniture they buy. FurniSure aims to rectify that problem by acting as a seal of quality and durability assurance. When we re-launched the category last year, we had overhauled and fixed a lot of problems like selection, delivery and service. Along with those innovations, which have fuelled high traction in the category, and FurniSure, our customers can now shop for furniture on Flipkart with complete peace of mind, knowing that their expectations for service and quality will be exceeded,” Nandita Sinha, Senior Director and Head of Furniture Category of Flipkart said.

Some of the items include Beds, Sofas, Wardrobes and TV Units. More could get added as the process of certification is expanded and more sellers offer and get approval for their furniture products. Flipkart has its own in-house brand Perfect Homes and the products under this brand also receive the durability certification.

The laboratories that conduct the test and certify the furniture are in turn accredited to NABL (National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories), the nodal agency that approves testing houses for their capability to carry out tests and report correctly. The certification by these NABL recognized laboratories are completely trustworthy.

Flipkart has rearranged the basic infrastructure for the ‘FurniSure’ store by setting up large warehouses across the country and gearing up the installation team to offer professional service to the customers within 48 hours of the furniture being delivered to help with the installation. 110 cities are currently covered under this plan.

Besides these, Flipkart also offers a guarantee on the products being exactly as per the specifications displayed and immediate return facility if the customer feels the specifications don’t match. This is called Specification Assured.
