Just days after a massive fire consumed the Chennai Silks building and brought it crashing down in Chennai’s shopping district at T Nagar, another fire was reported at the City Mall in Purusawalkam on Saturday evening.

Reports suggest, however, that it was a ‘minor’ fire.

The fire control room of the Chennai emergency services confirmed to The News Minute that 3 fire tenders were rushed to the spot and that the situation was now under control.

Initial reports suggest that between four and seven shops at the shopping mall have been damaged in the fire.

Several water tankers were also rushed to the spot as a precautionary measure, even as reports came in that the fire was doused.

TV reports state that a short circuit in the electrical wiring in the building could have led to the accident.

The police are keeping crowds away from the site of the accident, but traffic has resumed to normal.

The fire is said to have started around 4pm.

The shopping mall is reported to have more than 40 stores, with several weekend shoppers thronging them. There is, however, no news of any injuries or casualties just yet.

(This is a developing story and more details are awaited.)
