Finally, justice for Jigisha and Soumya: Wheels of justice are moving slowly but steadily

Exactly a year ago, a public prosecutor was re-appointed in my friend Soumya Vishwanathan’s murder case. After nearly 6 months and Soumya’s parents writing to Delhi government, the trial process had restarted in Aug 2015.

And today - there is only more hope for justice for my friend. Finally, closure doesn’t seem too far away for a lot of us who loved her dearly and miss her every day.

A Delhi court on Monday has awarded the death sentence to killers Ravi Kapoor, Amit Shukla and a life sentence to Baljeet, in a related murder case of IT professional Jigisha Ghosh.

It was in early 2009, just few months after Soumya was killed, that Jigisha was robbed and killed by the same trio. Her body was then dumped away in Surajkund.

The cracking of Jigisha’s case had led the police to solve Soumya’s. In March 2009, the police cracked Soumya’s case while interrogating the killers for the murder of Jigisha.

Jigisha Ghosh’s parents are satisfied with the sentence. They wanted maximum punishment for the killers. “I am happy with the verdict and this will set an example for others,” said Sabita Ghosh.

The Additional sessions judge Sandeep Yadav termed the case as “cold blooded and brutal murder” and awarded the death sentence to the duo.

While Soumya's mother, Madhavi Vishwananthan, and Sabita Ghosh mother share their grief, for their loss has been truly irreparable and exactly the same, they are now consoling each other as one of them waits for closure to her undying pain.

Wheels of justice are moving slowly but steadily.

A silent prayer for both of them, Jigisha and our Soumya, after a verdict which has brought a smile to her parents and her dear ones after years of waiting.
