Two students studying in Class VIII of St. Mary’s Matriculation school in Arisipalayam jumped off the terrace of a two-storey hotel building on Bazaar street in Salem on Saturday morning. One girl succumbed to her injuries immediately while the other is admitted to the government hospital, reported The Times of India.

The deceased, Jayarani, (13) and her classmate, S Kavi Sri, (14), had gone missing from school on Friday. Salem town police inspector S Kumaresan told ToI that the school management had already filed a complaint with Pallapatty police and the girls had jumped from the hotel building on Saturday morning around 9:30am.

According to a report, both the students used to bunk classes often despite being repeatedly warned by the teachers. It is said that a teacher had asked the students to bring their parents to school for a meeting on Saturday and the children had left their bags in school and did not go back home. The parents had filed a complaint at the Pallapatti police holding the school responsible for the missing children.

However, the police officials ruled out the possibility of the children being driven to suicide by the Blue Whale game. A case has also been registered at the Salem town police and the investigation is still in process.

Last month, four girl students of a government school in Panapakkam in Vellore district had committed suicide by jumping into a well as their teacher scolded them and wanted them to bring their parents to the school. Later, two teachers of the government school were suspended. All the four students were studying in Class XI and were identified as Deepa, Sankari, Revathi and Manisha.

According to preliminary investigations, the four students were scolded by their teacher along with 11 other students. They were told to bring their parents to school on Friday to discuss their conduct.
