These apps will now be investigated to find whether they misused any data.

Facebook suspends 200 apps in first stage of review into apps accessing user data

The crisis that gripped social media platform Facebook is still not completely over. The technical team in the company is still scrutinizing the thousands of apps that had access to data inside Facebook and as a first measure, 200 such apps have been suspended from Facebook.

The investigation being conducted is to find and isolate apps that collected personal data and is in possession of large amounts of it and to check if they had misused the data. If Facebook is convinced that any of the suspended apps have been clean and they have not shared any data with third parties, particularly Cambridge Analytica, then the suspension may be revoked.

It has to be recoded that Facebook had already stopped the access to these apps to the data inside its site in 2014. So, this exercise of investigating the apps will be with regard to the data already captured before that date.

Facebook has informed that they have formed several teams to carry out the investigations and these teams consist of experts drawn from different disciplines both from within the organization and from external sources. They say it will take them more time to complete the process.

Ever since the news broke on the Cambridge Analytica scandal in the middle of March and accusations that data pertaining to millions of people on Facebook could have been shared with Russian sources and there were some connections suspected with the Presidential elections of 2016, there was widespread outrage. Several users of Facebook, particularly celebrities were quite agitated and there was a campaign to uninstall Facebook.

The company has overcome many of these adversities and after the CEO Mark Zuckerberg testified to the US lawmakers and assured action, things began to improve slightly.

Its market value too, which drastically fell, regained much of its lost market value after it reported strong results on April 25, with a healthy 63% rise in profit and an increase in users.
